Trustcell is redesigning how money is held, released, and trusted across the web. With programmable escrow APIs, milestone-based disbursements, and support for marketplaces, contractors, and digital service platforms, Trustcell is unlocking trust-as-a-service for modern payments.
We sat down with Marc Vasseur, the company’s Chief Product Officer, to discuss the product vision, smart contract logic for real-world payments, and how Trustcell plans to take conditional payment logic mainstream.
Who is Marc Vasseur?
Marc is a Paris-based fintech and product leader, previously involved with multiple open banking and API-first ventures across Europe. He joined Trustcell in 2023 to lead product development and help bring programmable financial tools to B2B platforms and alternative finance players.
Interview
What is Trustcell in one sentence?
We provide programmable escrow and conditional payments infrastructure for platforms that need trust, automation, and dispute resolution.
What’s your main product?
An escrow-as-a-service API, allowing platforms to hold, verify, and release funds based on contract milestones, time-based rules, or platform events.
Which companies use you today?
-
Marketplaces (freelance, digital goods, rentals)
-
Web3 startups doing off-chain payment controls
-
SaaS platforms with conditional payouts
-
Payment institutions needing third-party fund logic
How do you differ from standard PSPs?
We don’t move funds instantly — we hold, monitor, and trigger payouts based on smart logic or human decisions. We sit between PSP and legal contract.
Do you require a license?
Trustcell partners with licensed EMIs and banks to safeguard funds. We’re also registered under French ACPR as a financial software service provider.
What technologies power your system?
-
Escrow vaults (EMI/bank-backed)
-
API + webhooks for payout triggers
-
No-code logic builder (coming soon)
-
Audit trail + dispute flows
Can clients set their own logic?
Yes — clients define release conditions: delivery confirmation, service review, external API callback, or internal workflow completion.
Who are your biggest clients?
A leading EU freelance platform, several white-labeled rental platforms, and a UK-based invoice factoring fintech using us for invoice-to-cash automation.
Do you support crypto escrow?
Not yet. But we’re working on crypto-linked smart contracts — using stablecoins with off-chain triggers for Web3-enabled marketplaces.
Can this be used for litigation or legal guarantees?
Yes — we work with notaries, legaltech startups, and cross-border M&A firms that require funds to be released only after contractually agreed conditions.
How is Trustcell priced?
We charge based on volume held, number of contracts, and monthly API access. Dispute resolution add-ons and white-labelling are priced separately.
How do you ensure funds safety?
Funds are safeguarded in client-segregated accounts held by partner EMIs. We don’t touch funds — we automate the logic around them.
What use cases are emerging fast?
-
Pay-on-delivery for online rentals
-
Freelancer platforms with milestone triggers
-
Token-gated service contracts
-
Influencer marketing payment hold/release
What’s your biggest challenge?
Educating platforms that trust logic can be programmable, and that not all payouts must be instant to be efficient.
Do you integrate with Open Banking or PSPs?
Yes — we connect to PSPs (e.g. Stripe, Lemonway, MANGOPAY) and can pull Open Banking data to trigger conditional payouts.
What’s next on your roadmap?
-
No-code rule builder
-
Web3 integrations
-
Embedded eSignature escrow
-
SME finance plugins (escrowed invoice factoring)
Are you planning to expand across Europe?
Yes — France, Germany, and the UK are already live; we’re adding BENELUX, Spain, and Nordics partners soon.
What’s your long-term vision?
To become the “Stripe of trust” — where any platform can plug in programmable money logic for peace of mind and conditional workflows.

FAQ
Is Trustcell licensed?
Trustcell itself is not an EMI, but partners with regulated EMIs and banks. It’s registered under French ACPR as a software provider.
Do you hold funds?
Funds are held with licensed partners under client name or escrow vault, never directly by Trustcell.
Can you resolve disputes?
Yes — we offer API-based or manual dispute resolution flows, with third-party arbitrator support.
Who builds the contract rules?
You do — via API or (soon) no-code logic designer.
Is this GDPR compliant?
Yes — all personal and payment data is stored securely in the EU.
