Interview with Romain Mazeries, CEO of MANGOPAY

MANGOPAY is not just a PSP — it’s a full-stack modular payment infrastructure tailored for platforms, marketplaces, and crowdfunding platforms across Europe. With its e-money license, customizable flows, KYC/AML orchestration, and wallet-based system, MANGOPAY is powering the next generation of B2B, B2C, and C2C platforms.

We spoke with Romain Mazeries, CEO of MANGOPAY, to understand the company’s strategy, value proposition, and how it competes against Stripe Connect, Adyen for Platforms, and Lemonway in Europe.

Who is Romain Mazeries?

Romain Mazeries is a veteran in European fintech. He has been with MANGOPAY since its early stages and took over as CEO to lead the platform through growth, licensing expansion, and tech transformation. With experience in both payments and regulation, Mazeries is one of the few executives who deeply understands platform monetization, compliance, and infrastructure needs across jurisdictions.

Interview

What is MANGOPAY in one line?
We provide customizable modular payment infrastructure for platforms and marketplaces — not just plug-and-play, but tailored to your business model.

Who is your typical client?
Marketplaces (e.g., Vinted, Chrono24), B2B platforms, SaaS marketplaces, gig economy apps, crowdfunding platforms, and digital wallet builders.

What makes you different from Stripe or Adyen?
Unlike generic PSPs, we specialize in complex flows (e.g. split payments, multi-seller checkout, escrow, delayed payouts) and support wallet infrastructure, KYC flows, and more — all within our modular stack.

What licenses do you hold?
We are an EMI regulated in Luxembourg, with full EU passporting. This gives us the ability to issue and manage e-wallets, virtual accounts, and execute SEPA and SWIFT payments.

Do you provide IBANs?
Yes — virtual IBANs are issued for each wallet under our EMI framework, enabling precise reconciliation.

Do you offer SEPA Instant?
Yes — and we’re rolling it out across our banking partners. Instant payouts are key for marketplaces.

What are your key modules?

  • Wallet infrastructure

  • KYC/AML orchestration

  • Pay-in (cards, SEPA, Open Banking)

  • Pay-out (SEPA, SWIFT, cards)

  • Escrow and split payments

  • Fraud and risk modules

  • Reporting and reconciliation

  • White-label back office

How fast can a client go live?
If using our hosted front-end, as little as 4 weeks. For deeper integrations, 8–10 weeks is average.

Do you support crypto platforms?
Only if they are licensed and meet our compliance standards. We don’t support unregulated flows.

Do you support cross-border commerce?
Yes — we support multi-currency wallets, FX, and payout to over 150 countries via partners.

Is MANGOPAY white-label?
Yes — our dashboards, onboarding, and payment flows can be branded and embedded.

What is your pricing model?
Modular SaaS + transaction fees, with volume-based pricing. Our clients scale and save via tailored setups.

What kind of support do you provide?
Dedicated technical onboarding, live support, and compliance guidance for complex flows.

Who are your competitors?

  • Stripe Connect

  • Adyen for Platforms

  • Lemonway

  • Treezor (less focus on wallets)

  • Weavr (strong for embedded finance)

What’s on your 2025 roadmap?

  • Real-time KYB module

  • Embedded lending via partners

  • Expansion into new markets (CEE, Nordics)
